Creation Museum - 01

In May 2007, a non-profit Christian organization called Answers in Genesis opened the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky. It features exhibits that tell the story of the origins of the universe and mankind according to a literal translation of the Book of Genesis. If you’ve never heard of it, I strongly encourage you to check out the museum’s website.

Now, I invite you to read this BBC article that was published while the Creation Museum was still under construction:

Creation museum pushes ‘true history’

Feel free to discuss your initial thoughts and reactions to the museum, but I’d like you to think about what the Creation Museum does to change the definition of a museum.

Should the Creation Museum be allowed to call itself that? Does using the title “museum” add to or take away from its credibility? Does it affect the integrity of established natural history museums around the world?

If you’re curious, check this out as well. This guy, John Scalzi, visited the Creation Museum and documented his experience in a series of pictures, which he has kindly posted on his Flickr account for the entire cyberspace community to enjoy. His perception is a bit biased but you can pretty much take a tour of the museum without paying the $19.95 for admission.
